Bank Holiday Monday: The Calm Before the Recruitment Storm
Bank holiday Monday.........
.........Out on the course at The Mere Golf & Country Club, trying to switch off… and mostly succeeding.
But if you’ve worked in recruitment long enough, you know what’s coming next.
Because while today feels relaxed, tomorrow tells a very different story.
Candidates have had three days to think.
Think about their job. Their manager. Their commute. That role they nearly applied for but didn’t. The recruiter they spoke to last week.
And clients?
They’ve had time too. Time to realise that project still needs delivering. That gap in the team hasn’t gone away. That hiring decision they parked… now needs action.
It’s the same every bank holiday.
A bit of distance creates clarity.
And Tuesday morning? That’s when it shows.
Inbox fills up. Messages come through. “Hi Howard, I’ve been thinking…”
That sentence alone can kickstart an entire hiring process.
It’s one of the most underrated moments in recruitment.
Not the busy days. Not the frantic calls.
But the quiet ones just before everything picks up again.
So today, I’ll enjoy the round. Maybe even a decent score if things go my way.
Because tomorrow, it’s back to it.
And another real day in the life of a recruitment consultant begins.
If you’ve been thinking about a new role over the long weekend, or you need to kickstart hiring this week, drop me a message and let’s get things moving before the rush hits.
