Accounts Assistant

Howard James Recruitment is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join a busy finance team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career in accounting while supporting the day-to-day financial operations of a growing business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and reconcile invoices, purchase orders, and payments.
- Assist with the preparation of accounts, month-end and year-end reporting.
- Maintain accurate financial records and data entry into accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero).
- Reconcile bank statements and assist with petty cash management.
- Support the Accounts team in budgeting and forecasting tasks.
- Liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal teams to resolve queries.
- Assist with payroll administration and VAT returns as required.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant financial regulations.
- Support ad hoc finance projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Skills and Experience Required:
- Previous experience in accounts, finance, or bookkeeping preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general IT systems; experience with accounting software an advantage.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
