Workshop Controller

Location: Cheshire area

Salary: £30,000 – £40,000

Howard James Recruitment is supporting our client with the appointment of an experienced Workshop Controller. This hands-on role involves coordinating a busy workshop operation, supporting technicians and helping to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

The Role

Working across several specialist workshop areas within the leisure vehicle sector, you will manage the day-to-day flow of work and act as an important link between the workshop and Service Advisors. This is an active, workshop-floor position rather than a desk-based management role.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate technicians and allocate workloads across different workshop areas.
• Monitor job progress, identify delays and take action to keep work moving.
• Support and improve workshop productivity and efficiency.
• Motivate technicians, manage performance and support the achievement of targets.
• Ensure technicians have the information, parts and resources needed to complete their work.
• Coordinate the movement of vehicles around the site.
• Maintain clear communication between technicians and Service Advisors, ensuring delays, issues and additional requirements are shared promptly.
• Monitor workshop health and safety, including PPE, safe working practices, housekeeping and access routes.
• Identify and address hazards or unsafe practices to help maintain a safe environment.

About You

You will be an organised, practical and confident workshop professional who is comfortable coordinating people and making decisions in a busy environment. You will build effective relationships with technicians while challenging inefficiencies and maintaining high standards.

• Previous experience as a Workshop Controller or in a similar supervisory or management role.
• Experience managing or coordinating technicians.
• A sound understanding of workshop operations, productivity and efficiency.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• The confidence to motivate people and manage performance.
• A good understanding of workplace health and safety.
• A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems.
• The ability to prioritise workloads and respond effectively to changing demands.
• Experience in a caravan, motorhome, automotive or similar service or workshop environment.
• A full driving licence, as the role involves regularly moving vehicles around the site.
